Pocket Films Festival – Japan’s Cel Phone Film Festival

Posted on 08 December 2007

Pocket FilmsJapan is hosting their first pocket films festival this weekend. The event, started in 2005 by French filmaker Jean-Charles Fitoussi, is much like a traditional film festival – expect that all of the films are created on mobile phones.

The Pocket Films Festival explores the potential for audio-visual expression that lies hidden in a “practical high-tech toy,” and through various media, aims to construct an ideal method of communication that excites our sensibilities – something not yet obvious even to artists.

Check out the official Japanese site here. And for a bit more history visit the original French festival’s site here.

Wear Your iPod Shuffle on Your Head

iPod Shuffle Wireless Earphones

This iPod accessory sounds cooler that it is, but then looks cooler than it sounds. I think? It’s wireless headphones for your iPod Shuffle. Except they’re not really wireless. Confused? It actually a head phone system that allows the lightweight Shuffle to snap right into it. I think it could actually work. I’ve got a shuffle and it’s certainly light enough. Plus you’ve got the cool benefit of looking like you’re walking around with a giant spider on the back of your head. A spider that listens to an iPod. More at: cnet.com

iPod Stops Bullet, Saves Soldier’s Life in Iraq

iPod that stopped a bullet and saved a life

Pretty amazing story. This guys’ iPod saved his life in Iraq. He was ambushed by an insurgent on the streets of Tikrit and shot in the chest at close range with an Ak-47. The iPod (an HP 20gb no less), slowed the bullet enough to save his life. He’s probably lucky he was carrying a 20Gig’er and not a Shuffle! Is there any provision in Apple care for having your ipod destroyed by insurgent gun fire? I guess it’s just one more thing for us Apple fans to gloat about.

Wooden MP3 Player

If you’re just too cool for an iPod, might we suggest a Gresso MP3 player. The Symphonia Collection consist of hand-crafted MP3 player made from rare African blackwood and 18 Carat Gold. They can even be worn around your neck as jewelry. Trust us, get one of these things and you’ll stand out from the crown – mainly because at $6,000 your going to have to sell one of your kidneys to afford one. [Via CoolHunder.net]

Human PacMan

Posted on 07 March 2007

Someone has created a human-sized live action Pac Man game. That, along with the fact this video comes from Japan, is all you really need to set up this clip. The Japanese are either light years ahead of American reality show culture or the entire country is already nuts.
