A Quick Look at the New Samsung Chrome Book 2

Posted on 11 June 2014

Samsung Chrome Book 2 is the second generation of the device released in 2012. It features a large display housed within a very distinctive design. If you are interested in buying this device, know that it is available in a 13-inch and 11-inch models and comes with a stylish faux-leather lid. With that out of the way, here are some things you should know.

On the Outside
The laptop’s body is of matte plastic, but the finish is of the quality you would expect from Samsung. However, even that pales in front of the display, which is perhaps the most prominent feature of the Samsung Chrome book 2. The 13 inch model screen is 12.7×8.8×0.65, which is unusual for its price range, while the 11-inch model screen is 11.4×8.1×0.66. The 11-inch Chrome Book also features a resolution of 1,366×768 pixels while the 13-inch comes with a full HD resolution.

The first thing to discuss in this part is the keyboard, which is another feature that makes the Samsung Chrome Book 2 stand out. The plastic keys are not only smooth and soft, but their subtle curve design also allows them to feel comfortable under your fingers. This allows for remarkable ease for typing.
The model also comes with a set of stereo speakers. These are located on either side of the bottom surface, providing you with a sound quality that you will definitely enjoy. That aside, the laptop features a 720 p webcam, ensuring crisp images and video.

Samsung claims that its latest device offers a battery life of 8 hours for the 11-inch model while the 13-inch model offers 8.5 hours. This may not be as impressive as other companies’ offerings, but the silent performance and the laptop’s inability to get warm make up for this.

The Takeaway
The Samsung Chrome Book 2 is a good addition to Samsung’s family and lives up to expectations. Its biggest strengths are the screen and keyboard plus the fact that the laptop offers a full HD screen for its 13-inch model, a feat unique for the time being. So if you are looking to buy an economical yet good laptop, the Samsung Chrome Book 2 is indeed what you have been waiting for.
