Google’s Project Loon

Posted on 20 June 2013

The internet has become a prime source of advancing technology with it being integrated in every other device. To cater users’ need, Google X, which secretly works on projects like the recent Google Glass, once again took a giant leap forward by introducing its new project Loon.

The name may sound loony, but the actual purpose behind the development has taken the technological boundaries to a new height of success. According to the company’s official blog post, readers came to know that thanks to this latest innovation, the internet will now be accessible in the most remote and desolated areas. You’ll have easy access to the web whether you’re on a jungle tour, camping over high altitudes or are exploring different places where internet connectivity was near to zero.

Google further stated that they’re calling this service “balloon powered internet” as it provides speedy access similar to the current 3D network that’s spread up twice as high as an air plane flies. The connections being spread up high in the sky are interlinked with each other. The company itself examined the service using around 50 testers. This was performed in New Zealand which eventually turned out to be a success as all balloon antennae linked up with each other.

The best part of the latest project from Google is that it’s been designed in a way to block all other unwanted connections. You’ll be surprised to know that actual balloons were used in the design and the schematics of this particular plan. This service can be best utilized in areas which suffer from natural calamities where communication initially breaks down.

This may considered as one of the silliest ideas so far by Google, which probably explains the name Loon. However, looking at its features and advantages, Loon may very well become one of the biggest assets for different countries.
