Well it’s finally here, the Apple iPhone (or should I say Apple, Inc.). Sadly there was no live Quicktime stream, but I managed to read the live Macworld blog through engadget.com (thanks much btw, nice coverage). For PC users or people who live under rocks I’ve included a snippet form the Apple press release outlining the basics.
I also thought it’s be cool to include my chat with a fellow collegue for a minute by minute blow by blow analysis of the Macworld iPhone unveiling. We’re both pretty much geniuses so it should be absolutely riveting. iChat first, then press release. Now time to check my contract with Sprint and see when I can sign up with Cingular!

Thanks man!

looks live they’ve started updating it live. just posted that the apple store is down and it is indeed.
Also check http://www.macworld.com/news/2007/01/09/liveupdate/index.php
10:40 AM
gotta get me an Apple TV
yeah. looks nice
how much is that?
ah. 299
When last announced it was going to be $249
huh
well it really is what they needed to make it worthwhile to bother to download stuff through iTunes
my last msg was before I saw the update. Well $299 is still OK i think
10:45 AM
I can see that they should make drive size an option when ordering. 40GB will not do because people will want to store more and more on the drive.
10:50 AM
OS X on a phone?!
?
wow
Probably links to Software Update for updates. This thing might be almost as big as the iPod.
10:55 AM
syncing everything through iTunes is kind of weird though – that’s a music program – fundamentally
includes a 2 megapixel camera
ipod connector
itunes does seem a little strange instead of isync, but that’s probably so you can put music/videos on it. Otherwise, you might have to run two programs. Maybe isync will go away and everything will be thru iTunes?
beattles
played on phone.
I’m sure the syncing thing boils down to using a technology that people are used to – and it does make sense if you’re moving mainly media files
11:00 AM
the unlock method is kind of cool
yeah. I think the touch screen will change things a lot
those little buttons on phone suck in general
that’s always been my complaint with those keyboards. Why is it Apple is always the one with the revolutionary ideas — and design to match! Did they corner the creative engineer market?
I like seeing the flip through Album cover thing like on iTunes
if this is the opener, I wonder what’s to come?
no kidding
I want one already
11:05 AM
Yeah me too. I hope the Cingular exclusivity is short lived. But it may make me switch.
11:10 AM
Apple stock is currently up $2.50 ($87.97)
I wish the page auto-refreshed like altough MacRumors shows very little comment. I like the engadget better, but they should at least refresh on top instead of the bottom.

you have to select the text to watch? The text you would select isn’t going to change, just more text added below. Anyway, I’m using Safari.
ah
Well the first hour now is on iPhone. Let’s go.
r
11:30 AM
Apple is up $3.37 now
interesting that they’re in tight with Google yet signed a deal with Yahoo mail from the free push-mail service?
Gmail is great, I guess maybe not sophisticated enough?
11:35 AM
I don’t use either, but a couple of clients use gmail and would like to get it thru Mail but I think it’s only web based right?
yeah, Gmail is rolling out a new multiple POP capability
it’s a nice product. works a bit different that Yahoo mail
organization based on ‘tagging’ instead of literal folders
so stuff can be in more than one place
nice, but takes getting used to
but just think Yahoo AND Google have a vested interested in pushing the product. That’s huge!
11:40 AM
Steve started talking about iPhone around 12:45 NY time. Check the graph for Apple since then. It’s now up $4.57.
hah
11:45 AM
here it comes….
$$$$
11:50 AM
ah. not bad. not cheap
ship date in June is a ways off
I doubt they’ll be offering multi-carrier access for a while
but that gives me time to switch to Cingular!
I wonder if it will be cheaper with a contract like they usually do?
good question
11:55 AM
Stock still rising. Just hit $91
MACWORLD SAN FRANCISCO—January 9, 2007—Apple® today introduced iPhone, combining three products—a revolutionary mobile phone, a widescreen iPod® with touch controls, and a breakthrough Internet communications device with desktop-class email, web browsing, searching and maps—into one small and lightweight handheld device. iPhone introduces an entirely new user interface based on a large multi-touch display and pioneering new software, letting users control iPhone with just their fingers. iPhone also ushers in an era of software power and sophistication never before seen in a mobile device, which completely redefines what users can do on their mobile phones.
“iPhone is a revolutionary and magical product that is literally five years ahead of any other mobile phone,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We are all born with the ultimate pointing device—our fingers—and iPhone uses them to create the most revolutionary user interface since the mouse.”
